Strategy plan for the expansion of Frankfurt Airport

With approximately 420,000 flights per year, Frankfurt Airport ranks among the ten largest aviation hubs worldwide. To accommodate the forecast growth in air traffic and an expected passenger volume of up to 80 million travelers annually, a comprehensive expansion of the infrastructure was required.

The expansion program included the construction of a new runway and an additional terminal. With the commissioning of the new runway, annual flight capacity was to be increased to up to 660,000 movements. The new terminal complex was connected to the existing terminal via an integrated, fully automated passenger transport system.
