General planning for the combined cycle (CHP) plant Dradenau, Hamburg

The goal was to replace the Wedel heating plant (HKW Wedel) by 2025 at the latest with a climate-neutral heat supply in western Hamburg, using combined heat and power (CHP), waste heat, biomass, power-to-heat, and heat storage systems.

Technical highlights (excerpt):

  • 2 gas turbines (50 MW each), 1 steam turbine (56 MW)
  • 2 supplementary firing systems + waste heat steam generator
  • Electric heater (20 MW), fresh air steam generator (40 MWh)
  • Absorption heat pumps (70 MWth heating, 30 MWth cooling)
  • Heat storage: 2,400 MWhth / 55,000 m³

DPH services:

  • General planning from basic engineering to construction supervision
  • Planning, permitting, tendering, and coordination of detailed design

Special features: Focus on safe operation, efficient implementation, and future-proof heat transition infrastructure
