The Chemnitz cogeneration plant operates two lignite-fired boilers to generate superheated steam for district heating and electricity supply. The resulting exhaust gases pass through the air preheater, electrostatic precipitator, induced draught fan and flue gas desulphurisation system before being discharged into the chimney. Dornier Power and Heat was commissioned by the operator, eins energie in Sachsen GmbH & Co. KG, to determine the total mercury concentration and species (Hg0 and Hg2+) in the exhaust gas stream upstream of the FGD on Block B as part of operational investigations. The reference measurement method according to DIN EN 13211 with isokinetic partial flow sampling was used to determine the total Hg content.
