Given the seasonal overcapacity in the production of desalinated seawater on the one hand and the lack of large drinking water reservoirs – such as dams – on the other, artificial groundwater storage/recharge with desalinated seawater and recovery (ASR) is an obvious and strategically important decision for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The implementation of this project will set benchmarks for water management in desert regions and establish new international standards.
