The Wedel cogeneration plant, which is fired by hard coal, has an electrical output of 260 MWel. In addition, 423 MWth can be extracted through combined heat and power generation. The power plant thus plays an important role in supplying district heating to the city of Hamburg. It was commissioned in 1965 and underwent extensive modernisation in 1993. Due to the advanced age of the plant, negotiations on replacement capacities have been ongoing for several years. As long as there are no alternative district heating producers, the Wedel CHP plant will remain in operation with the help of measures to extend its service life.
Dornier supports the operator in identifying appropriate measures, planning and awarding contracts, and implementing them.
