This study examined the development of air freight traffic and the corresponding impact on Frankfurt Airport, with a growth outlook of 3.5 million tonnes of freight per year. The analysis included an examination of the overall economic role and value of air freight logistics in a global, national and regional context, and developed a master plan for Airport Cargo City.

The study examined the development and requirements of air freight logistics as well as important trends and future developments in air freight. In addition, it highlights the strategic importance of Frankfurt Airport for air freight logistics and as a central hub in the European and German air freight network. To this end, air freight-specific characteristics are examined by comparing Frankfurt Airport with selected German and European cargo airports. This highlights the unique selling points of Frankfurt Airport. In addition, the study assesses the future development of air freight traffic on the basis of various forecasts.
