As part of the decarbonisation of aviation, airports are pursuing the goal of continuously reducing their carbon footprint by cutting their own emissions. At the same time, the aviation industry is increasingly developing alternative propulsion technologies such as battery-electric and hydrogen-based systems, especially for smaller and regional aircraft. To enable the use of such sustainable propulsion systems, the expansion of appropriate charging and refuelling infrastructure at airports is necessary.
The required energy can be provided either through on-site generation or by external energy suppliers. However, the technical and economic feasibility of these infrastructures is highly dependent on the location. Therefore, differentiated business cases are necessary in order to adequately reflect the respective requirements and framework conditions of regional airports and to develop viable implementation concepts.
