Vattenfall Europe Generation AG carried out an upgrade of the pumped storage plant, which went into operation in 1958/59. The two pumped storage units, each with a capacity of 40 MW in turbine mode and 36 MW in pump mode, underwent a comprehensive overhaul between 2012 and 2014. In addition to mechanical components such as piping, hydraulic units and generators, the entire electrical and control technology was also brought up to the latest technical standards.

The renovation of the building was another part of the overhaul measures. As part of this project, Dornier Power and Heat was commissioned to provide planning services for the following lots: control technology including 0.4 kV machine distribution, dismantling and disposal, recommissioning and safety officer (SiGeKo).
